1st INTERVIOLAS COMPETITION BOGOTÁ

The VII Festival Interviolas Bogotá 2023 «Latinoamérica Vibra» presents to the violist community of Colombia and Latin America, an artistic initiative for Bogotá and Latin America, which promotes the continuous growth of violists within the activities of the festival. Between September 24 and 30, 2023, live rounds will be presented and each round will be open to all active and/or passive attendees of the Interviolas festival in Bogotá, guest musicians and the general public. The select international jury will listen to each contestant, who will interpret works written and inspired by the richness and multifaceted possibilities of this peaceful instrument.

This contest has the alliance of renowned institutions such as the Central University, the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra and the Sergio Arboleda University.

We invite the entire violist community of Colombia and Latin America to participate in the 1st. Interviolas Bogota Contest.

* Public choice award: this recognition will be consulted through voting and selection of the public that attends the rounds of the contest.

* Award for the best interpretation of the obligatory work: this recognition will be made by the jury.

REQUIREMENTS AND REGULATIONS

1. Contestant Profile

The Contest welcomes applicants under the age of 30 until December 31, 2023, of all Latin American nationalities.

2. Registration and Registration

– Each applicant must complete their online registration form which can be found on the official page of the Festival Interviolas Bogotá (https://festivalinterviolasbogota.com). Following this, the applicant must continue with the registration to the contest, which must include:

· The registration form completed online
· The proposed repertoire list for the four rounds of the contest. No changes can be made, unless required by the Artistic Committee.
· A letter of recommendation from a teacher or musical tutor, which contains the contact information that he sends (name, position, address, telephone, email).
·A high resolution (horizontal) color photograph, intended for media advertising.
· Artistic review of the applicant.
·Copy of identification (ID or passport)
·PDF of the receipt of payment of the registration to the contest for an amount of $300,000 Colombian pesos ($70 USD) which will not be refundable. Registration includes access to all Festival activities.
· Link to the preselection video.

Upon completion of their registration and registration mentioned above, the candidate will receive a confirmation via email in which the entire registration and legalization as a contestant is ratified.

3. Penalties and possible disqualifications

– Applicants must present all the requirements requested by the artistic committee for registration and registration on the dates indicated. Said exercise will guarantee the applicant the selection to enter to participate and deliberation of the contest in the space assigned in the official invitation by the Interviolas Bogotá Festival, if it is not carried out in this way, they will be disqualified regardless of what part of the process their applicant is in. inscription.

– Lateness and non-attendance of the candidate to the rounds and/or calls within the contest will be grounds for disqualification from the competition.

– The candidate can be penalized for committing misconduct inside and outside the contest. Offenses such as defamation, unfair competition, “non-professional” relationship with a jury, in the event that there is evidence of some kind of intolerance towards the other contestants, juries and/or artists belonging to the Interviolas festival.

– Attendance under the influence of hallucinogens and/or alcohol to any activity related to the contest will be grounds for sanction by the artistic committee.

CONTEST DEVELOPMENT

1- Preselection – Video Round
Make a single horizontal video, with the two works from start to finish without cuts or splices, and upload it to a YouTube channel with your name and description of the works. The sonata must be performed with piano accompaniment. Talking is not allowed in the video.

The selection of candidates will be in charge of an international jury.

2- Live rounds
The contest will be held in three face-to-face rounds in the city of Bogotá D.C. Our rounds will allow competitors to showcase different aspects of their playing through works written for solo viola, piano, and orchestra.

It is important to clarify that these rounds will be open to the general public and will take place at the Bogotá Theater of the Central University, which is located at Calle 22 No. 5-62, Bogotá D.C. during the week of the VII Festival Interviolas Bogotá 2023.

3- Contest order
A random drawing process will determine the order of presentation of the candidates, this order will be applied for all rounds of the competition one hour before the call to said activity.

4- Valuation criteria
The expertise of the juries will determine the technical and artistic quality in the interpretation and staging

5- Deliberation
– The candidates will be classified in the order assigned according to the scores of the jury in the exercise of deliberation; in case of a tie, the candidate with the most «Yes» will be ranked as the highest.

6- Accompanying pianist
– Each candidate will have a companion only for two rehearsals at no cost, which will be assigned by the festival. Any additional essay will have a cost and will be borne by the candidate.
– In the same way, the candidate can bring his own companion.

JURY

The members of the international jury will listen and evaluate all the performances of the Latin American competitors, between September 25 and 30, 2023 in the city of Bogotá D.C. The jury reserves the right to stop the audition at any time it deems appropriate. The decisions of the jury are final and unappealable.

The jury will be made up of prestigious international violists invited for the VII version of the festival.
